After being inspired by marbled papers from Near Eastern and Renaissance books for so many years, I decided to invent my own method of marbleizing papers using water-based pigments. The marbleizing process quickly became a new engine for generating drawing and pattern, a collaboration between my color choices, the subtle weight differences among pigments and the motion of the liquid. It availed me of an entirely new toolbox of “effects”, similar to digital processing. Additionally, the marbleized papers I produce are translated into hand-knotted rugs and printed silk chiffon scarves.
